Why are older consoles more durable than newer ones?

Do people in the U.K. generally refer to video games as computer games, even ones on consoles?

I don't live in the U.K. and I have yet to actual go there, so I'm guessing based on a song and a book that refers to video game consoles (eg PlayStation, XBox, Wii) as computers and games for those consoles as computer games. In the U.S., we generally refer to them as video games or just games. I don't want to make any assumptions about the U.K. though, and that's where you come in.

I'm from the UK and I just just say 'I'm going upstairs on the XBox for a bit' - Or 'I'm looking on buying this new game' I never said computer OR video games. XD

Not really if i was to go and play my xbox i wouldn't say "im going upstairs to play computer games" id simply say Im going upstairs to play some xbox
