What paper do I need to use?

I need a suggestion for a type of paper mache to use.?

  • I'm making a keyblade (it's a key-shaped weapon from the video game franchise, "Kingdom Hearts") and need a good suggestion. I'm making the base out of cardboard ducktaped together and filled with tightly packed computer paper, but I need a type of paper mache to use to cover the whole thing. I've had enough childhood experience to know how to use it, but I'm not sure where I could purchase some, or what would be the best/cheapest option to use. The four things I'm looking for in this are (1) It has to be strong enough to take a minor beating and not crack. (2) It has to be cheap enough to buy in a large enough quantity for my project. (3) It has to be both sandable when dry (for a smooth surface) and paintable. (4) I need to know if it will adhere to ducktape easily or not. In addition, a location in which I could purchase this would be fantastic. If I have to make it out of some sort of glue and newspaper, it'd be nice to have a suggestion for the glue as well.

I've used the directions on this website and it works really well. It's for paperclay made of pulped paper, joint compound, which you can buy easily in a hardware store, and Elmer's Glue. I use it for doll heads and it dries hard, sandable, and durable. The website is pretty inspirational!

I made a cell model. It was really simple. It looks 2D except I made it out of heaps of different materials, so it can be felt. It's not that hard to make, but it depends on how you want to make it. The science topic was the Human Home, because we find cells in our homes. Good luck!
