Are there any NATURAL herbs or alternatives that would help with my social anxiety?

I've had anxiety since my mid teens (currently 22) but have developed pretty bad social anxiety along with more frequent panic attacks and sever insomnia in the past months. I've taken every medication under the sun but they either drop me into a deep depressed state or work with dependency as a side effect =/ I have to work with a lot of people on a day to day basis and I absolutely LOVE my job. But my anxiety has become unbearable.

I've suffered from Social Anxiety / Phobia for a few years too. Doctors prescribed me antidepressants and benzodiazepines, but neither worked very well. After switching to alternative medicines I would never go back, they really have a lot to offer that we know little about. Kava Kava (Piper methysticum) comes from the Pacific regions where it is consumed like alcohol is in the west. It's effects are quite similar, but it does not slow down cognitive thinking like alcohol. It is becoming very popular along the east coast of America since drinkers can become intoxicated without experiencing a hangover the next day. I have used it in capsule form and traditional powder. It is very effective for anxiety since it makes you more sociable and relaxed. I wouldn't recommend taking it while driving or working since it is an intoxicant. There was a scare a few years back where a few people in Germany died of liver failure who were taking Kava at the time. This prompted European countries to outlaw it's sale. Subsequently however it turned out that those who died were chronic alcoholics and drug abusers. It has also been used ceremonially in Pacific island countries for hundreds of years without any side effects. The World Health Organisation later reviewed the use of Kava and gave approval of its safety. Europe is expected to review the laws passed and repeal them, but Kava can still be purchased from online vendors in those countries affected. After tasting the traditional drink I have to say it's pretty unpleasant, but the capsules are tasteless and very convenient. There are many other herbs effective for anxiety. Along with Kava I like to use Gotu Kola, Schisandra Berry, and Rhodiola Rosea. Gotu Kola (Centella asiatica) is an Ayurvedic herb and is very useful for a range of mental problems. It relieves stress and anxiety, but at the same time helps you concentrate, unlike many sedatives and hypnotics prescribed by doctors that can make you feel slow and lethargic. I find it very useful when studying at university or working. Schisandra Berry (Schisandra chinesis) comes from both Chinese and Ayurvedic medicines. It is known as an adaptogen because it protects the mind from stress and fatigue. You can buy it in capsule form like most herbs, or as dried berries which can taste a little unusual. It gives you more motivation while reducing stress. Rhodiola Rosea (Golden Root) is a herb used in Russia for hundreds of years to help cope with stress and improve mood. Like Schisandra it is also an adaptogen and is sold usually in capsule form. There are many different herbs that could help with your symptoms. My advice would be to try some of the herbs above and take a look online at some other alternative medicines.
