What can happen when you get written up at work?

What to do if you get written up for something you didn't do at work?

  • This has never happened to me but I'm always paranoid it might at some time... My roommate gets written up for things at work like the drawer he is running (cashier) being off when the managers did not sign him off and let other people ring on it. If that happened to me I would not want to accept the write up. What can you do? *yeah I would tend to agree it's the cashier's responsibility to sign himself on and off. I've cashiered at a couple places before and that's just how it is done. Well the one place we shared a till but then no one was personally responsible for it. I think this is a rouge place my buddy works at. I kind of wish he would get a new job before they decide they are done with him and use this BS write up(s) as leverage to get rid of him on a whim.

  • Answer:

Be alert but not paranoid, try to document as much as you can with your phone camera etc. but, you can't be stressed, it will happen sooner or later in some point of your life.

Its the cashiers responsibility to sign off the cash terminal. As far as allowing a manager to let another cashier use their "sign on status". Its the operators fault for letting it happen. When you finish your shift. You sign the cash drawer off yourself. Once its signed off. The next person who uses it whether it is a manager or another cashier has no option but to use their own sign on number.

You can put your case to the management on your own. Or Union representation, will speak on your behalf. Union representatives address concerns of unfairness to the management. If they have done it to you, they may have done it to others, and thus management needs to put procedures in place to actually track down who has shorted the cash, rather than making allegations that are false. In this day and age, the mechanism of the register will tell them the transactions, time and amounts. They should be able to track it.

Be meticulous about following correct procedure and you will have the means to defend yourself should it ever occur.
