What are some ideas for bringing in & keep guests at a day spa?

I'm a 'spa coordinator" at a fairly new but amazing Day Spa in OC CA, but besides my receptionist duties, I'd like to help bring more clients in & keep them returning... So I need YOUR help :) (...if you don't mind lol) What are you looking for in a spa besides the treatments itself? What would be the cherry on top that really made the sundae? (so to speak lol) What made you want to reccomend or bring your friends somewhere? How about what do you NOT like at spas? The more specific the better!

Wine/Champagne/Beer. If you're not serving one (a good one of course) of each, you're doing your spa a disservice. Good snacks. Goes along with the wine/champagne/beer. Good workers. It's obvious when you're at a spa or other facility and the workers either really like their jobs or not. It really changes the feel of the place. You can't just tell your workers to "be happy". You have to facilitate their relationships with you as their manager, their spa, and each other. Entertainment. Bring in a piano and pay a professional to play for 45 minutes per hour for 4 hours of your peak times. Have movies in a waiting room for the guys. Have an arrangement with a nearby daycare provider so that parents can bring their kids in and have them taken care of. Hope that helps!

What I look for in a spa is great services, perks for returning, and most importantly being on time! I hate waiting around 45 minutes after my massage just to get my nails done. If you don't have time to do it, don't schedule. If a person waits 30 minutes between stations, you need to give them a discount. The cherry on top for me is really politeness. Too many spa receptionist get this uppity attitude. You should ask a person if it is there first time using this spa. If so, explain things to them. How things work, who will be doing each service and what they are to do between services. Sometimes when I'm waiting and I have to ask how something works, the receptionists tend to feel "put out" to answer the question. I understand you've been asked that question 5 times today but if so, you should learn to explain it before they ask. I've stopped going to so many spas b/c they were rude and "snobbish" about a spa. Same with services. I've come to relax. Sometimes the person doing nails wants to talk about what a stressful day they've had or how things bother them. I hate to sound rude but I'm here to be pampered and to relax, not hear about someone's stress level. Especially for men. When a man walks into a spa, he is uncomfortable like when you force him to walk into a Victorias Secret. He wants a receptionist to immediately greet him and explain to him about buying a gift card for his wife. How much would be a good gift card? Where is the list of services? Many are in there for the first time and my husband hates this worse than anything. He buys it for our anniversary each year and always talks about if a good receptionist talked him through it and made him comfortable. What makes me want to recommend it- perks and discounts. If you recommend a friend, $10 off next treatment. If you book a treatment the same day, you get 5% discount. Something like that. Many places do that so after I spend $500 at a place and they don't give me any perks, I'm going to go somewhere else. Champagne, tea and coffee should be brought to me--not just pointed to me at where I can get it myself. The only thing I really don't like is when there is a really long wait. Especially if there doesn't appear to be any reason. Or when you get skipped or given bad service b/c a VIP is there. My money is just as green and if you can't provide the services I expect, you should reschedule me.
