How do you get the books you need in college?

Why won't these college idiots at the bookstore let me get the book myself?

  • I am a student at the college and I am getting bossed around by young 18 year old freshmens at the bookstore telling me what to do and telling me to stand behind the line and I am much older than them!! I thought I was allowed to get my book myself but I got screamed at by a 19 year old girl who works there yelling: "SIR YOU NEED TO STAND BACK AND LET ME GET IT FOR YOU! You arnt allowed to cross the line!" And I snapped back: "jez I didnt know that was a rule!! and I am a student!" So why is she in charge to tell me what to do and even if it was a rule, why is it at COLLEGE BOOKSTORES, STUDENTS ARN'T ALLOWED TO GO BACK AND GET THE BOOKS THEMSELVES! At the library, you are! Why are they so strict at college bookstores anyway? And what if I end up seeing that rude girl again? How can I deal with her?

  • Answer:

Beat her with a sack of oranges. It doesn't leave a bruise and it shows her who's boss.

Are you serious? *That* was rude? There are rules at the bookstore, employees deal with people who break them (whether inadvertently or not) all day, she was just barking at you to stand back, so how about you just do that and quit the whining? Who cares how old they are, they work there. If it hurt your feelings, then write a blog entry about it or something, but you need to get over it. I cannot think of a tone of voice that would make what she said rude, sure, she obviously yelled it at you, but get over it. Your story brought in a few details about what exactly is possibly *your* problem. You seem to care about younger people telling you what to do, that is their job, age does not mean you can do whatever you want. You really need to get over yourself, when you are a customer, you are a customer and the employees need to do their job and regulate. Obviously, she could have said it in a softer, nicer voice, but what she said is no big deal. Your other seeming problem is that you do not accept it is a rule, when she clearly told you it was (i.e. when you state "even if it was a rule"). Why is she in charge? Because she works there, duh. Why is it that at this bookstore you have that rule? You would have to investigate the history of that bookstore to understand why most likely, but this is also immaterial. At one of the bookstores at my college, you are not allowed to get books yourself either. I am older (grad student) than most all the workers there, I do not care how old they are, they are in charge, it is petty to think about age in a situation like this. It does not matter what the rule is, a rule is a rule is a rule, you should follow them and stop worrying about 'why' it is there if it does not hurt anybody. You are the one with most of the problems here. How do you deal with her if you see her again? You follow the rules, and stop being so freaking sensitive. You sound like a teenager, complaining about nothing.
