How can I form better opinions and observations?

  • How can I form better opinions and observations about issues or things that I don't really know about OR already know? I have a weakness for saying the most obvious things...which translates to an uninteresting conversation or response to my uninteresting statement. People aren't being mean...it really IS up to me to make interesting observations or opinions. I have trouble with this. It's one of the reasons why I've been reading community boards and listening to talk radio (r.i.p. free fm!) because I'm listening to the opinions of others. Yet it's not helping. What are quick ways of practicing? "Reading more" doesn't seem to work, because although I have a wealth of knowledge from wikipedia, books, life experiences and media, I can only translate that knowledge into sharing information with others. People don't want to hear that...we're more interested in opinions. The funnier/wittier/intelligent the better.

    Practice thinking about the "flip side" of a topic or argument. In my opinion it is much more entertaining to have a friendly banter with someone on a topic than to constantly agree with someone. Playing the Devil's Advocate is not only interesting, it's entertaining and most definitely witty.

Practice thinking about the "flip side" of a topic or argument. In my opinion it is much more entertaining to have a friendly banter with someone on a topic than to constantly agree with someone. Playing the Devil's Advocate is not only interesting, it's entertaining and most definitely witty.

Try watching more tv, and maybe new stuff, see how other people do it, lol its just a simple task of taking notes on socializing, maybe mtv and stuff but always try to be your self and dont try to be so comical, people need serious treatment sometimes and i wouldnt want u to get addicted to being so funny at those times.

If you weren't born interesting, you can build yourself into being one. As it doesn't come naturally to you, you need to be patient and read poetry and fictional metaphoric stories and songs to learn how to see things from a different angle. Saying or repeating infortmation balantly without any personal touch makes you sound like a robbot or a smug showing off with what you know. Try to develop your own opinion and your own thoughts not just based on facts and numbers.. yes supported by them but not influenced by them.

do research and find all sorts of info. read or listen and try to see what you think about it. let your imagination run wild.

It sounds like you are a little intimidated by people & not trying to form your own opinions but you shouldn't be b/c this is what makes a conversation interesting having different opinions on things you sound like an intelligent person so just speak up for what you feel & think don't over think on everything OK just jump in there & let your voice be heard Good luck you can do it
