What is the proper etiquette for a letter of interest?

  • I am about to enter my final year in a B.S. Physics program. I have found a company in the same town as which I study and am very interested in completing an internship with them during the school year. They do not, however, have any job opportunities or internships listed. Rather, they just give an email address and mailing address. Should I email or snail mail a letter of interest? After searching the website, I could not find a single name to direct a letter of interest to. I then searched Linked Inn and could only find two employees listed: a VP of Operations and a Director of Services. Neither of these seems like the proper person to send an inquiry to. Is "to whom it may concern" the properaddresss in this case? It seems a bit outdated, but perhaps I'm just not in-tune with business etiquette.

    Snail Mail is your best bet, but spend the extra money and send it registered mail, directed to The personnel manager etc.... Your address top right of letter page..dated. Their address slightly below to left, under your telephone number and E-mail should you wish.. Dear Sir/Madam,.....l Now your format is to capture interest;what makes you special; why do you feel that you should be employed by this firm; if you send a short Narrative Resume..all the better.Looking forward to your reply.(You.ve shown you are different..initiative, willing and capable) End with a personal "twist"...Yours gratefully. .....All luck..it'll work, trust me!!!!!!!!!Bye
