How can I scare my friends at a Halloween party?

Who is supposed to pay for my birthday party?

  • Well I always thought that someone hosting a party should provide the drinks as a matter of etiquette. But I've been getting different opinions lately. For example, my friend recently went to a Halloween party that her friends girlfriend hosted and my friend and her boyfriend had to go through the hassle of buying their own bottles of liquor to bring to the party. I'm the one planning and throwing the party for myself so it seems as though I should pay, but it's my birthday!! liquor is rlly expensive and I don't think i should have to pay for this sort of thing, along with chips and cupcakes or whatever. but then again, nobody would plan a party for me and i'm worried that if i tell people to provide their own liquor then nobody will come. i'm really conflicted.... i also had planned to ask my roommate to chip in to pay for liquor but she's been in a funk lately thinking that she's the only one who pays for stuff in the apartment (so untrue) and idk if i should still ask her. because it's my birthday party and not a house party/joint party, i only invited my friends so idk if she is still supposed to contribute if none of her friends are coming. PLZ HELP!!

This is what BYOB (Bring Your Own Booze) was invented for. It's pretty standard procedure for parties thrown by young people without a lot of disposable income, and it frees up your budget for food.

No one is obligated to throw you a party or pay for your party for your birthday. If you wish to have a party, then it's yours to pay for. If you cannot afford to do so, then there is no party, period. Take yourself out to dinner instead. Who throws birthday parties for friends after you are maybe 16? Unless you are 21, 30, 40, 50 or 60, I don't know of anyone.

Well, of course since you are hosting your own party--you're stuck with most of the buying as far as food or liquor goes! I suggest you tell your friends (or those coming) to bring at least one food or drink item! It's not a rude thing to say at all, besides they should get it!

No don't ask your roommate to pay! but yes ask people to bring drink.

I agree in ur invite just write byob.... plus i think they should do it anyway since it is YOUR birthday and if they dont, then you have cheap friends. I would imagine they might want to help you out I believe u should supply the food (pizza, chips, dip) and they bring the booze since it is the most expensive!

You are to old for a party. Why don't you donate your time and money to charity!
