What makes a Surgical Office Assistant do?

Should i tell my new dentist that his assistant is rude?

  • I had to go to a new dentist that my root canal specialist referred me to-to get a new crown on my tooth. The dentist is super nice, friendly and professional.. Problem is i do not like his assistant at all. She makes me feel really uncomfortable.. When i first went in, she kept walking back and forth a couple of times looking at me filling out the papers, then when she calls me in she shakes my hand and introduces herself as though she is a hygienist or the dentist. I told her my situation with my teeth and she kept giving me these looks like "your pathetic".. Then she tells me to put on glasses to block the light out,, this is before i even met the dentist, i thought this was weird, i took them off and waited to meet the dentist.. I liked him alot, then the assistant comes in and hands me a bag without saying anything, just starring at me. The basic dental bag with toothbrush, etc. I found this weird.. Next appt, she asks me what perfume im wearing, I say gaultier, she says she prefers mariah carey, i make small talk and say she having twins, she says "i dont follow celebs like that so i would not know", she tells me the only celeb she follows is jennifer lopez and i say shes great on american idol, she then says "i wouldnt know because i never watch tv".. Then when all this stuff is in my mouth when i cant speak shes talking in a snarky voice asking me when is a good time to come in for an appt. She then tells me i dont need to be numbed for the dental work which schoked me, she pats me on my back like a dog.. After everything, i ask the dentist if i should come back for the appt next week, she marches in and shouts, looking at me like im an idiot "I told you already when your next appt is, do you understand this"? I got upset and said firmly "when you asked me i was out of it and couldnt speak".. The dentist was right there, i go to the bathroom and come back and shes acting super nice now... I'm white and shes a 300 pound hispanic not that it matters but i get the feeling she may be racist. Should i tell the dentist about this or just go somewhere else? Hes running an upscale dentist office but shes basically acting like a medicaid clinic. I think him hiring her shows hes unprofessional even though he has top degrees.

  • Answer:

Talk to him but don't assume that because she's rude and you're white that she's automatically racist.

I would 100% bring it to the attention of your dentist. I would let her know that she is being rude first off. Say something like, "I don't really appreciate that comment. That kind of comes off as rude. Now, IDK if you meant for it to come out that way, but that is pretty rude..." If she doesn't stop, then bring it to the attention of your dentist. "Um, what's your assistant's name?" "Barbara (just for example)". "Oh. She was pretty rude to me earlier." See if your dentist takes note of this. If he cares about customer satisfaction, he will ask you more about the incident. If not, then find another dentist, because he probably doesn't care enough about customer satisfaction to care about the job he's doing on your teeth. I hope that answers your question! Good Luck!

when you added the 300 pound hispanic & meidcaid reference - you discredited your entire case. maybe you came across to her the same as you did to me in this presentation of your case.... arrogant, judgmental snob.

She engaged you in conversation to find a way to insult you. She sounds racist to me. If I were you I would finish the dental work that needs to be done and ignore her, do not talk to her. If she insults you again, tell the dentist right away. Dont go back after what you need and be sure to tell the dentist why in a nice way, you can write a review online. He should of apologized because she did it in front of him. Most likely if you say something he'll defend her and say something like hes suprised because shes so nice.. Thats what my dentist did to me.. Trust me write a review and dont go back.
