Is death anything to be afraid of?
-
I've always been fearful of death and dying, even though I believe there is nothing to be afraid of. As ironic as it sounds, death is a part of life. My father and grandfather have seen death firsthand and have even come close to meeting death themselves. They say they aren't scared and I believe them. So I'm asking if there is anything to be afraid of in the afterlife.

Answer:
Only if you don't know Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. I recommend reading the Bible, New Testament first, for answers. The Bible says there is a broad way and a narrow way. The broad way leads to hell and the narrow way to life in heaven. Most people are on the broad way. Humility and repentance (literally, changing your mind, about sin) is necessary; as is trusting that Christ died for your sins and rose again that you might have eternal life. Repentance will give a person a desire to live for God and do His will. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs).

What afterlife? I don't know if one exists or that anyone knows. All I can guess right now is that you lose your consciousness and will no longer be aware. Try to think of how it was before you were born. Nothing really to fear.

Of course it seems scary at first to question whether or not there the Christian 'God' is real, if you grew up in America or another nation where that religion is the popular one. Fear cannot get in the way of questioning. People in Iran might be afraid to question Islam. People in ancient Greece, afraid of the "gods" on Mount Olympus. But, once you start questioning 'which religion is real' and things like that, you realize you cannot be blindly afraid of something that you might only believe because of societal conditioning and place of birth. It would be impossible to do right by all religions, just to be 'safe', because many contradict each other. I'm scared like hell of death, but I'm not willing to delude myself into wishful thinking about some religions' afterlife myth.

No. When you're dead you won't even know it.

your good deeds are the only things you can take with you. if you live a life well spent you don't have much to worry about.

No, when you die, that's it. Depending on how you die, death itself could be painful, but don't worry, we've got all sorts of drugs now to take care of that.

I honestly can't wait. I'm not suicidal or anything because I love life and I love living but I really want to know what happens when you die.
