I found the clip of Religulous I asked about, can someone help me understand what Bill Maher meant now?

I try to be more understandable: 1. Why Bill Maher saying they are trying to outsmart God? 2. What do the inventions supposed to do?

    There are specific rules of what you can or cannot do on the Sabbath. The inventions the rabbi made allow you to still perform the actions that you want while getting around the day of rest. So in that way, God wanted the Sabbath to be a day of rest, but the inventions provide loop holes into his rules. So Bill Maher says that they are trying to outsmart God.
