It's a very expensive way of farming... you have to build the tower and create proper planting conditions (dirt, water, etc), which isn't necessary given that a large, flat plot of land would work just as well. But in the long run, it's a fairly effective way of farming, and does indeed reduce land space. Overall, it is my opinion that vertical farming is not a bad idea, but not any better than conventional farming unless there is a specific situation that calls for it.
