What is the surface area?

What's the surface area of the ocean WITH waves included?

  • For the math/science buffs out there: Given that 3/4 of the earth's surface is ocean, the ocean isn't flat. When we factor in waves and ripples into an area of ocean, this increases the area of the surface of the ocean. Also given that there are various wave heights - we could calculate a median/modal wave height - but was wondering if anyone could/knew how to figure this. Was wondering to factor this into "global warming" stats as the ocean is a producer of oxygen from algae and was hoping to calculate the surface area of the ocean into this.....

  • Answer:

Pretty bumpy considering the deterioration of the earths crust underwater over time possible great depths and islands and mountains covered, Algae from pockets and sulfur gaps and Volcanoes underwater also contribute to the underwater surfaces. Water or liquid is not a solid surface unless it is solidified therefore causing it to be grand in colder regions of earth covered in water.
