Help!!!!!! Metric Conversions Word Problems(Gr.10 Biology)?

  • Help!!!!!! Metric Conversions Word Problems(Gr.10 Biology)? How the Heck do you do this? my science teacher is such an idiot, he doesn't teach us anything, please help me with this, because we have a test on it in two days and i don't get this so it says the Metric Conversions at top of page it has:( Btw 10^-2 is ten to the power of negative 2) 1 cm = 10^-2 m 1 mm= 10^-3 m 1 um(micrometer)=micron=10^-6 m 1 nm(nanometer)=1 millimicron=10^-9 m 1 A(angstrom)= 10^-10 m 1 m=100 cm= 10^2 cm 1 m=1000 mm=10^3 mm 1 m=1000000 um=10^6 um 1 m=1000000000 nm=10^9 nm 1 m=10000000000 A=10^10 A This is what is really confuses me ( the word problems) There are 4 1.Courtney observes a cell 50 microns in size and does a wonderful drawing which measures 50 mm. Help her calculate the magnification of her drawing. 2. Jason makes a drawing of a rectangular cell which measures 80 mm long by 30 mm. The actual sixe of the cell is 0.80 mm by 0.30. Calculate the magnification of the drawing. 3. Carrie observes a cell and makes a drawing of the cell which has a magnifiation 500x larger than the cell. Because she had listed during class she can calculate the size of her drawing, knowing that the actual size of the cell is 20 um, find the actual size. 4. Milroy makes a drawing which has a magnification of 500X the cell. The drawing is 8.5 cm.What is the actual size of the cell in millimeters. Okay PLEASE HELP me, i'm getting a good mark in science but i don't want to lose it, my new science teacher is an idiot! anyways, please explain how you get the answer(procedure) for at least any of these, you don't have to do all, but just teach me at least one or something, because all my friends that are like geniouses don't even know this, and i need help fast!, thanks!

  • Answer:

    WEll Ill try first one, now. 1. 50 *10^-3 m/50* 10^-6 m= 10^3 magnification? 2. 80 mm/.80 mm= 100 magnification?
