How do you solve equations with just plain old letters?

1. 7t = x (solve for t) Divide both sides of the equation by 7 Then t = x/7 2. r = wp (solve for p) Divide both sides by w r/w = p or p = r/w 3. p - r = r (solve for r) Add r to both sides p = 2r r = p/2 4. 4m - t = m (solve for m) Add t to both sides 4m = m + t Subtract m from both sides 3m = t Divide by 3 m = t/3 5. 7a - b = 15a (solve for a) Add b to both sides and subtract 15a from both sides 7a - 15a = b -8a = b a = -b/8 I think you should be able to do the rest yourself. (check problem 8---I think you made a typo---two equal signs?)

Well, you move the letter it says to solve for to one side by itself without any negatives attached to it. So for one it would be t = x/7 p would be 2r/w Etc. All you need to do is get the letter you're trying to solve for to one side. Just treat the other letters as numbers. :D
