What is an assistance unit?

Finding the arc length of the unit circle... need assistance.?

  • Okay, so I'm trying to find (well, prove) the arc length of the unit circle... but I can't figure out how to evaluate the integral. integral(1+d/dx[sqrt(1-x^2)]^2) = integral(1+1/(1-x^2)) Integration by parts won't work, cause the whole things under a square root. Same goes for partial fractions. It there some u-sub that I'm not seeing? I realize that 1/1-x^2 probably means I'm going to end up with an arcsin... but I can't figure out how to do it. Help please?

  • Answer:

arc length= absolute angle x radius of a circle
