How big is an acre?

How much in square feet is an acre? I have some figures I need to check.?

• When I was growing up my father who was a farmer owned five acres at one location and three acres at another location. After his death the property was divided into ten lots 50' X 100ft. The three acres was divided into three lots but i do not know the exact size. I was helping someone figure out an acre the other day and I said 200 X 200 ft based on information I got from my father years ago.This person decided to measure th land based on what I had told him. He cut a path and he created an 'acre' that is a little over 200ft deep. But across the front it is about 190 ft wide. My research said an acre is 208.7' or so by 208.7'. The alternative to what my father said is 100' 'X 400 ft. Of course the surveyors have the final word.How much is an acre? In the case of the 190' X 200+', what would have to be the precise measurements to make it an acre? Based on the ten lots 50' X100' that my father's property was divided into, I know it does not qualify as five acres. How many acres was it?

  43560 sq ft, or a square 208.71 ft per side 10*50*100 = 50000 ft² = 1.1478 acre --- A 'lot' less than 5 --- Traditionally, an acre is 4 X 40 rods, or 4 rods X 1 furlong, a rod being 16.5 ft. Looks like you have some more research to do on this matter. Good luck.
