Where is Speed Speaks?

If u where 3000 light years away from earth. does the speed of light reach there first then you ?

  • experiument by the goof bronki. If you had the pwoerfull technology today and u wanted to get 3000 light years away from earth in a instant travel.. and you got there in under 10minutes... do you think you would had won because the (speed of light) hasnt even got there but you did first before the speed of light actually gets to you within a few minutes later ? Or will the speed of light virtually got there first before you did ? lets say just imagine you travel out to space 3000 light years distance away from earth.. you just got there under 10minutes travel.... did you got there faster then the speed of light or the speed of light got there first then you just did under 10minutes ? Because if you jsut got there first then the speed of light.... what would u see if you had a powerfull telescope and desided to seee earth... would you see earth or see nothing ? until the speed of light reaches you then you see something ? I just want to make sure if the speed of light is greater then this experiment.... because i also want to know how fast as we speak does the speed of light has gone to? if the speed of light has reach far far into space..... how far distance as we speak has send light to ? billions light distance ? i mean i love to knowe. this is just experimentation but not virtually just imagine we did this.. want to compare you the one who got there under 10minutes ago vs the speed of light... who wins and why ? Course really i thought the speed of light allways is faster then anything thing in the universe... but it seems its not so true i gues... course if u where to be 3000 light years distance away from earth and u just got there under 1 hour...... did you got there sooner then the speed of light or did the speed of light got there first then you? so who wins? if so im guesing the speed of light isnt faster then what we all thought. Remember this is just example and just imagine it was posible to reach that destinationb in just 1 hour in a straight line... just example and imagination only.. Oh and this will happen its technology but not for the next few thousand of years from now aniways.

  • Answer:

you seem to be confused if you travel 3000 light years out into space then that means you have travelled the same distance it would take light 3000 year to cover, so how could light get there 10 minutes after you if you got there in an instant it would take light 3000 years to get there so if you could shoot out into space in an instant and once you got there looked back at Earth with a powerful Telescope you would then see the Earth not as it is now but how it looked 3000 years ago i hope this helped

Our current understanding of the universe means that travel faster than the speed of light is not possible. But assuming you did manage to teleport 3000 light years, you would beat the light that left earth at the same time as you. It would take 3000 years to reach you. But if you looked back at Earth, you would see the light that left Earth 3000 years ago. Human transmissions have been leaving earth for around 100 years or so, so you would be able to detect them for 100 light years around the planet.

you don't understand what you are saying. 3000 light years is a distance. it is the distance traveled by light in 3000 years. you got there in 10 minutes? you must be traveling 1 trillion times faster than light.

If you travel distance of 3000 LY in 10 mnts that means you are travelling faster than speed of light. So you win. Three thousand years (less ten mnts) down the line from that place where you have reached, you will be able to see your self leaving the Earth because "that" light has just reached your new abode in the universe.

Light supposedly travels at a steady pace of around 186,000 miles per second in the vacuum of space so if you traveled 3000 light years in 10 ten minutes, then yes, you would have beaten the speed of light. But there are some things in the universe which could travel faster. Some research suggests that the speed of light can be exceeded by what's called superposition of particles or quantum entanglement, supersymetry, etc....Einstein called it "spooky action at a distance"...two particles can transmit information between each other instantly no matter how far apart they are...even across the universe. That would far exceed the speed of light. In quantum mechanics, an object can exist in two or more states at the same time. The next trick will be to figure out if we can transmit matter...or people... in the same way....teleportation. In theory, you would have to break down the quantum bits or "qbits" of information of all the particles in your body on earth...them use superposition/quantum entanglement to transmit that information instantly to another planet dozens/hundreds/thousands of light years away...and then reassemble the exact information/matter at that distant point....poof, there you are. It could prove useful in the meantime with transmitting data or instructions to and from robotic missions in deep space or in faster quantum computers. The trick is to figure out how to contain intertwined particles at the start and end of the system. Current computers systems ...as fast as they are...are limited to operating below the speed of light since they rely on electrical impulses. http://news.sciencemag.org/sciencenow/2008/08/13-03.html http://www.popsci.com/technology/article/2011-04/quantum-teleportation-breakthrough-could-lead-instantanous-computing http://www.physorg.com/news/2010-12-physicists-teleportation-based-optical-quantum-entangling.html

to go 3000 light years, light takes... 3000 years?... as far as i know light speed is the theoretical limit, as at light speed your mass would be infinite and therefore the energy required to move would be infinite and so you would reach zero speed! (obviously going this fast would be near impossible due to the energy required to get a mass he the speed) if you did overtake light speed then you could see yourself, it would be like an expensive mirror :P. i'm afraid to say i'm struggling to understand much of your question! but ill probably look again later!

Scientist discovered a white dwarf 3000 light years away from earth while giving away it's heat before fading away. When did this actually happened, 3000 light years ago and earth Scientist only discover and seeing it NOW or are we the earthling were 3000 light years in the future, looking back and seeing that 'events' occurring only a couple of days ago? How could the Scientist able to capture a photographic events live occurring 3000 light years ago away from earth?
