Is there any way to watch dvds on a mac from a different region?

I have lots of dvds that are region 2 because I live in England but my mac laptop is region 1 because I kept changing the region without realising it would eventually stay on one of them. It's a problem because I don't have very many region 1 dvds and I would like to be able to watch my region 2 ones. Is there any way to watch them? VLC player doesn't work and I can't find any way to rip them so I can't watch them that way.

I know you can play an out of region movie five times in a PC but I don't know about a Mac.
