Whats the difference between an IMAX version and 3d version? i thought all they show on imax is 3d?? lol?

First not all Imax theaters can show movies in 3d, some do not have a 3d projector, although that is starting to change. Back in the 1990's only a few Imax theaters could show 3d. Like 1 in Chicago and 1 in New York. St. Louis and Kansas City Imaxes did not have 3d. It just is on a larger screen, that is the trade mark of Imax, not the 3d. Also true Imax theaters have huge screens, like 5 stories tall. Ones at the mall are only 8 feet taller than the regular screens.

IMAX is shot on 70mm film, which is twice the resolution of standard film; it is then projected on a screen that is twice the size of a standard movie screen. The result is a rich viewing experience that makes the regular cinema feel sort of dull by comparison. Most of the more recent IMAX movies have been in 3D, but there's no rule that they have to be.
