Why doesn't Tom Cruise speak in a German accent in the movie "Valkyrie"?
-
In the film "Valkyrie," Tom Cruise plays a German -- but he makes no attempt to speak in a German accent. In fact, he talks exactly like Tom Cruise would talk in any other movie: like an American. Strangely, this flagrant inconsistency was completely overlooked by film critics. I don't know what I'm getting at, except did anybody else notice this? It's ridiculous.

Tom Cruise is not a method actor. Tom Cruise just plays every character as Tom Cruise. He is still a good actor but don't ever expect Daniel Day Lewis type performances from him. Tom Cruise doesn't want you to ever forget that you're watching Tom Cruise on the screen.
Most Americans don't even know what a German is or what they sound like. Basically, because Americans don't have a thought about that in their mind, and the media people know that. *Gonzo your insults do not work when I know full well I am completely understandable.

i did, but america has sooo much power that its people feel that everyone will swallow this crap, just because, in other words you will love it because i'm me and everyone loves us.
it's because his french was a little rusty.
Hermie Butmar you insult Americans but can barely string a few coherent words together, well done. Americans are just awful at trying to speak in any accent except a southern twang so they chose to have him speak normally so we are not distracted all movie by his poor attempts. Seems most non-american actors can get the u.s lingo down but is totally the opposite for us.
I read several reviews when it came out flaming him for that very reason. I remember them saying how the other actors in the film were fantastic and he just brought the whole thing down. It reminded me of when Kevin Costner played Robin Hood. Everyone had an accent, except him. It was ridiculous. Cruise is one of my least favorite actors because I feel like he plays the same character in every movie he does.
