What can you do with a degree in Digital Media and Broadcast Film?

I want to be a film critic. Can anyone give me advice on where to post my reviews? And answer these q's...?

  • Hey, I really LOVE the film industry. I love to edit, act, direct and most of all - review! I love the way you can express you're oppinion honestly in a clear and enjoyable way for the audience. I should be getting a job at Blockbuster in a year, so that made me happy to ;-). But anyway, I have some questions about film critics: 1) Where is a good place online to post your film reviews and hear what people think? 2) When is the right time to try break into newspapers and magazines for film critics reviews? How would you do this? 3) My personal way of reviewing a film is to write myself a series of questions beforehand (such as main points, eg; cast, music, lighting, editing..etc..). How do you film critics choose set out your reviews? 4) Qualifications. Obviously good English Gcse, then would it be good to go onto English A-Level, and then a degree in Journlism? Also I was thinking of studying A-Level: English, Film Studies, Media Studies and Music. Would this be good for a film critics qualifications? I would really appreciate you're input, really! I know being a critic is NOT sitting around watching movies and eating popcorn all day. Hell no! I (but I may be wrong) think that is a common steriotype for a critic. But you are not casually enjoying a film, you're working. You watch good films, but heck I bet there are bad ones too! Anyway, thank you :>

  • Answer:

You need to establish a reputation before you even think of being considered by a newspaper or magazine. It's not an easy profession to get into, and even more difficult to become successful at. Here's an article with a lot of good tips: http://www.ehow.com/how_4687787_become-film-critic-formal-training.html And as for your first question, if you want to be a critic, the last thing you want to do is care what people think about you.
