How hard is college?

I have two questions. Do your high school grades matter and how hard is college.?

  • I am a senior in high school and already have scholarship and know where I am going. But, my dad is hounding me to study hard this last semester because it "affects my chances to get into medical school" even though I have mid range B's in all of my ap classes. My friends have like Cs and Ds, but I have no idea how discerning medical schools really are and how far they look back. Second, I was wondering how hard college will be. I took a bunch of ap classes so all my general classes will be knocked off, but I will probably take all the science classes again. I will major in physiology or something most likely so I will have to take some challenging classes like O chem. I was wondering considering this and that I want to get a good MCAT score how hard college really will be and how time consuming. I have had no time for a social life b/c of obsessive parents so I was hoping I would enjoy college. I will have a job on the weekends and maintain a high GPA (3.8 hopefully). Sorry for length!!

  • Answer:

Some colleges may look as far back as your middle school grades. Some, but not all. Yes your high school grades and classes matter. I am currently taking an extra math course in order to complete my degree program in college because my high school math requirements didn't meet what was required. Also, I cannot quote this however, I'm pretty sure that any type of medical program will want a 4.0 gpa or higher. But like I said, don't quote me on that. You're gonna have to do the research yourself. But all in all, your dad is right. Your high school grades and classes do matter to colleges in the long run. And college isn't exactly a walk in the park however it's not exactly something you're going to be a slave to until you graduate. It's going to be rather difficult if you cannot manage time well enough between school, study time, homework time and a part/full time job. It has been done with many, many people, however it takes a strong will and excellent time management skills. Good luck!
