College letters: They keep sending me guides to get into college, apply, please them, etc. What do they mean?

Some I got: *Applying to college Stress free *You and your college quiz *Financial aid tips *Career choosing quizes *7 steps to get into great colleges *Beyond class rank *5 ways to stand out. I'm wondering what the purpose of these is, some of them are very relevant, and some are not at all. What purpose do these serve? Is this genuine interest or are they just mass-mailing them? Only one of them came without my name and a really long number. Gotta love that individuality feelin'

You must have recently taken the PSAT. Or you are soon to be a senior. Colleges get a list and start sending out bulk mail to high school students. Be glad you didn't give anyone your email, or you'd hear from them that way too!
