Can I change my name?

Is there a LAW saying you can't add or change a name to a Junior?

  • Is there some kind of LAW stating that you cannot add or change a name to a jr.? I mean...women don't HAVE to change their maiden names when they get married. There is no law stating that they HAVE to. That's an example right there. It's just a damn tradition. My partner wants our 1st child (yes it's a boy) to be named after him. I'm not crazy about the idea. I've even tried to compromise on me having at least the middle name, but no luck. He says it won't be an Jr. if the baby does not carry his full name. I'm tired of not being able to agree on it without someone being unhappy about it. And our son will be here in about 2 weeks! His name is Cordarryl Reco Martin. I was thinking of doing Cordarryl Reco Andres Martin Jr. OR Cordarryl Reco Tinoco Martin Jr. (Tinoco is my maiden name.) I mean why couldn't we do it like that?? I'm sick of hearing people say 'OH but if he doesn't have the full name he can't be a junior!!" WHY can't he a junior? If it's our child we can name him however we want to. I'm sure other people have done this. Changed or altered the name of a Jr. Is there a law floating around somewhere saying that the name has to be exact and nothing can be altered or taken away if you want it to be a jr?

  • Answer:

You can't name him jr if the name doesn't follow the fathers exactly on the birth certificate. Adding or taking away part of a name defeats it being jr. Lol My son has his fathers 1st name. My maiden for his middle. His dads last. That doesn't make him a jr
