GED vs REAL High school diploma question?

So, I just saw a picture of my friends GED and it says HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA and back in the days people told me GED was just a diploma NOT A HS diploma but nowadays the GED's say HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA now my question is what is the difference between the GED and the real high school diploma? if it both says HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA on it ? and say I take this to the Military will they accept it as a HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA? or will they find out that it is a GED?

A GED is the equivalent of a high school diploma. The only place it really makes a difference is if you want to go to a university. However spending a year in community college and transferring will usually satisfy most university's requirements to show you're serious about education. Also the military doesn't care either way - they see them as the same thing.
