High school grades good enough to be psychiatrist?
-
How important are my high school grades? I had an A average freshman year, a B average sophomore year (Both years taking regular classes), and am entering my junior year taking all honors courses. (Honors english, honors APES, Physics 1 (Weighted course), human anatomy and physiology, intro to music tech, and band.) I want to be a psychiatrist, and I want to go to a great school (not talkin ivy league here). I want to know my chances of making it to the end... any suggestions? I would like to know school names, if possible...? Will financing through college be an issue? Should I really try to pull up my grades? I know I am thinking about this early, but better early than never!! =) Thanks in advanced!

Answer:
You should definitely always be working as hard as you can, no matter what major you go into. Most schools have you apply to your major after taking at least 30 hours worth of classes (most classes are 3 hour credits, so it would be 10 classes in all). When you apply to your major, they look at the classes you have taken in college so far and how well you had done in those. Usually, if you have As and Bs, you will have no problems in getting into the major. High school grades matter more when you're applying to the college of your choice. Research some colleges in your state first, as they will be the cheapest for you. Out of state costs more if you're worried about financing, and more than likely you'll find a good school near you. Financing depends on your Financial Aid. You will fill out a FAFSA (Free Application For Student Aid) and send it to your school, with your parent's tax statements and the school decides if you will be able to get any Financial Aid. Hopefully you have a high school counselour that will help you with all of that. Good luck!
