High school sports team?

I'm a freshman in high school and interested in joining soccer. Can somebody explain how high school sports teams work? I know there's varsity for the very best, Junior Varsity for juniors and the rest who didn't make varsity, but what about freshmen and sophomores? Are there teams for each grade? Are they lumped together into one team?

Depends on how big your school is and how many kids come out of the sports teams. The big schools in the Chicago area have Varsity, JV, Soph, and Freshman teams. Sometimes there are so many freshman that try out that they have Freshman A and Freshman B teams. Some schools (like Chicago Public Schools) get their funding cut, so they can only have one varsity team.
