Which school should I go to?

  • I have to choose which high school I am going to attend next year but each of them have majors pro and cons. The first school is really prestigious and I know that going their will help me meet the right people and get into the right university etc... But the problem is that I hate most of the people in my grade their. I have been attending this school for two years and I still don't get along very well with anyone. I am really miserable there but I know it is a better school. The second school is a school that I attended in middle school. It is also a private school but it is all girls. It also has a lower reputation. The classes are much easier and attending this school will not make it easy for me to get into university. But I get along really well with every single person in my grade there. Although there were some things that I disliked about this school, I was never miserable there and I didn't dread going to school like I do now. Which one should I choose?

  • Answer:

Don't sacrifice your happiness for better schooling. If you're a smart girl, you'll make it into a college, regardless of what school you go to. If nothing else, you'll stand out as an even better student at this other school, even if it doesn't have as great of a reputation. Dreading school every day would definitely be avoidable in my opinion, and if you have a way to avoid it, then do so. Besides, at high school, half of the fun is the social life, and if you can't make good connections with people, then that problem could follow you wherever you go.

The second one sounds a bit more attractive, since, from your descriptions, you sound like you'd probably be happier there. And as for getting into a university after that school, if you work really hard, have a good GPA, and have plenty of extracurriculars the school's reputation won't matter as much if you were to be average/below average. So just do what makes you happiest, and work hard. I'm at the end of my senior year of high school now... My school has a great reputation but I'm "average" and didn't get into the "better" schools. Looking back, I should have tried harder. So just work your butt off, but have fun too.
