Getting a job during high school is it hard?

Droping out of high school and getting a job?

  • Answer:

Depending in what state you live in, there may be an alternative high school you can attend--if your reason for quitting school is because you hate the daily schedule or the other students or teachers. Some states have courses in the community college or the technical college that will give you credits toward a high school diploma. One of the great things about these courses is that they are scheduled either morning, afternoon or evening and the students only needs to be there when the course/s are offered rather than the full high school day. The other benefit, of course, is that you continue to earn your high school diploma. Whatever you decide to do, give yourself the benefit of looking into your future--which will be really limited without the benefit of a high school diploma. Good luck!

Not a good idea. You will be literally flushing your future down the proverbial toilet. Take the time to talk to one your school counselors before you do something that you may very well regret for the rest of your life. There is an entire world out there waiting for you, IF you acquire an education. In the current global economy, having at least a high school diploma is a critical step for avoiding poverty, and a college degree is a prerequisite for a well-paying job," the study says. "The costs of dropping out of high school today are substantial and have risen over time, especially for young men, who find it almost impossible to earn an adequate income to take care of themselves and their families." The report goes on to note: "Americans without a high school diploma have considerably lower earning power and job opportunities in today's workforce. Over a working lifetime from ages 18-64, high school dropouts are estimated to earn $400,000 less than those that graduated from high school. For males, the lifetime earnings loss is nearly $485,000 and exceeds $500,000 in many large states. Due to their lower lifetime earnings and other sources of market incomes, dropouts will contribute far less in federal, state and local taxes than they will receive in cash benefits, in-kind transfers and correctional costs. Over their lifetimes, this will impose a net fiscal burden on the rest of society.

DON'T DO IT! You are ruining your future by doing that. Especially if you don't get your GED. You will get the worst paying jobs out there, but will be working for 15 hours a day, and barely living off of that. You will get huge into debt and eventually spiral into poverty and probably end up begging on the streets. Is that what you really want? stay in school, at least get your diploma. And you're not even fifteen, you're still in freshman year! If you stay in school and graduate you can get slightly better jobs with a diploma, but since you're still early on if you raise your grades and you study enough you could get into college and have an even better future! You could get great jobs, make good money, have a family and support them, and completely avoid poverty! Do you really want to spend your life begging and mumbling to yourself, i wish i would have finished high school, while everyone else walks past you and thinks, god that persons crazy? do you?

That should not be an option for you at such an age. Even if you were 16+ you still shouldn't. I recommend sticking it out. You've managed to finish one semester, and one more will mean you'll have completed ninth grade. Something terribly wrong must be happening if even your dad is willing to agree with this plan. And how is school messing up everything for you? It is there to secure your future. You have a better chance surviving in the real world with a high school degree than none at all. And many people manage to balance school work and have a job at the same time if money is very important right now, although it shouldn't be. Education should be at the top of your priority list. Please find someone who you can talk to more about this. And also, you never should be concerned with getting married or even having a child if you can't even suck it up and stay in school. I don't mean to sound mean, but I want you to know that this is a major decision that could end up being one of those "What was I thinking?" moments. I've got a bro in the same yr. as you and I would surely kick his bum if he ever considered making a decision. But if he did, I would really sit him down and work whatever problems he has with him. Really, find someone who cares about your well-being and have a nice long talk. I think it's vital that we hear more of your story too. Best of luck!
