Im not too sure of ones around london So.. 8th grade that would be year 9. Basically - secondary school is ages 11-16 after that you can go to college or work. Few hav a sixth form which is the same as college but you stay in the same school. By the way, I've been to California , SanFrancisco on holiday :) nice and sunny. Here is a website which might help - London is huge though http://www.learningtrust.co.uk/schools/secondary_schools/ Good Luck :)

You'll go to a school that is in the catchment area to where you will be living. God help you if it is one of the Inner London City Boroughs unless of course you pay to go to a private school. Be prepared to be taught a lot of dumb subjects which will be of no use to your working life like homosexual relationships, how to get free condoms and the morning after pill at school. All to do in the name of Political Correctness and courtesy of left wing councils!

Yes, as sewrobb says, you go to a school in your catchment area and these differ quite a lot. I would guess that East and Southeast London have fewer ‘good’ schools, which are therefor harder to get into. But there are good schools in London. Take a look at the league or performance table of each school, which is published by the department for children, schools and families (dcsf ) on the following web link: http://www.dcsf.gov.uk/performancetables/schools_08.shtml You need to choose ‘Secondary school’ option in the set of tables option, then choose ‘browse by region’ and opt for London. On the following page choose the borough you will be living in and then you will be able to see what the exams results are for each school if you opt for the KS4 results tab. The final column ‘average total point score per pupil’ will show you which are the best (exam wise) schools in any particular borough, and which school catchment area to try to move into. Another site that might be useful about school inspection is:- http://www.ofsted.gov.uk/Ofsted-home/About-us/Parents-and-carers Good luck.
