What are the best schools in the US for journalism?
-
I'm a high school student and although I'm not certain what I want to do when I'm older, I'm seriously considering journalism as a career. I'm not sure *what* kind of journalism, but I think something to do with music or the arts would be right for me. What are the best schools for that? My friend who's a senior this year is hoping to go to UW Madison and I do know that they have a good writing program but.. I'd rather not go somewhere in-state(Wisconsin). Also, what classes would I need to take? I'm taking a Creative Writing class later this year, by the way. Thank you kindly.

The two best that I know of are Northwestern University in Chicago, and Syracuse University in Syracuse, NY. I'm on my school's newspaper because I thought I'd make a great journalist, but I've changed my mind. However, I still like writing for the newspaper. At my school, the newspaper is a class (Journalism I-III), and the only way to be a part of the newspaper is be enrolled in the class. I don't know if your school does something similar, but if so, then take the class. It will help you with basic prinicples of reporting and other journalistic work. Also, consider taking AP English Language if you haven't already. AP English Literature might help as well. History classes also help for becoming a journalist.
I heard Northwestern University is supposed to be good for that
University of Missouri-Columbia.
