How much should I revise for my maths GCSE?
-
I have my first ever GCSE exam coming up in a week. It's a maths GCSE and I'm taking unit 2 in the modular course. It's exactly a week away from the exam and I've started revising (about 2 days ago) for about an hour a day and plan on gradually increasing up to the exam. I plan on doing about 1.5 hrs a day in the upcoming days and then loads of hours over the weekend. I'm extremely nervous even though my predicted grade (A/A*) and my grade in my mock was good, even with only a few hours revision, (I got a mid A in my mock; my mark was 50/60, which is 4 off an A* and 4 above the A mark). I have tuition on Tuesday and Wednesday. Anyway; to the point. My question is how much should I be revising a day, people online seem to suggest 3/4 hours a day which is ridiculous for me. I need your opinion on this, and I also need to know if I should've started revising earliar than about a week before the exam. Finally, any tips on nerves? Thanks :)

Answer:
I'm doing Linear and I got an A on my first try and am aiming for an A* this time; doing between 1-2 hours per day, so I think you are doing just the right amount - to be honest, don't aim to complete a certain amount of time, aim to complete x number of questions, or to understand this many new topics/concepts. :)

I'm doing Maths GCSE too, but Im doing the Linear course which is much harder! Modular is more simple, because you kind of have a remote idea of what is going to come in the exam- whereas linear is just learning everything in 2 years and getting one paper at the end which may or may NOT include everything you revise, so its like a whole massive chunk of junk that you need to learn and you don't even know if it's gonna be in the exam or not! For modular, i recommend that you revise 3 hours a day- BUT dont do them all after each other, revise an hour in the morning, then perhaps 2 hours in the evening? or Vice Versa? that way you'll learn everything much faster because you'll be doing it throughout the day several times. I also recommend that before you start a revision session that you just *go over* the work that you did previously in order to get your brain in the hang of things, just randomly do exercises and TEST YOURSELF!!! Always test yourself- especially on things that you revised earlier and moved on from, cause you may be able to do it at the time but now you dont know if you forgot it or not- so just make sure you get in the hang of it! Good luckkk!!! I'm **** scared too. Just breathe and bring a bottle of water with you into the exam. If you revised well enough, then you won't be as nervous and someone who's slightly more careless! All the best x
