I've been asked to write a statement saying I've done something wrong at school?
-
Hello, during a school lesson my friend was annoying the teacher by talking and making silly noises, as he does eery lesson. Suddenly I made a funny high pitch noise and he was kicked out of the class for it, with a warning that the teacher might report to the headmaster. My friend has now asked me to write a statement saying I did it. I think I should write it but how should I structure it/ Should i blame it on him? Blame it on me? Thanks guys

Answer:
I did the same thing to a friend of mine in class over 45 years ago and I never spoke up. I was a coward and I let my friend take the blame. You do this for you, not for him. You be a man and write a letter. You say the truth. He is always acting up but this time, I overreacted to the situation and I made the noise that got him kicked out of class. Continue by saying that you are very sorry that you did this and you will never do such a dumb thing again but I take responsibility for my actions and I want to set the record straight. Many things will happen, first the good side: The innocent person will be grateful. He will appreciate what you said and did. He will become a friend. He will respect you forever. Your teacher will feel the same way. Your principle will feel the same way plus all the adults who hear about this will know that you have become a responsible young adult. An adult is a good thing kiddo. People love it when kids act like adults plus you will have become an adult no matter what age you are right now! Your classmates will hear about this and they respect you more than they might say but you will be getting high fives and smiles and people will just start to feel good all around you. On the bad side, you might get detention but you know what, you deserve that, don't you? Whatever happens, you don't complain about it. You keep your head high and say, I understood the consequences when I wrote this letter but it was not right what I did and I had to help this innocent person get off. That would have been harder on me than anything I will be facing. Now, I will still be able to look myself in the mirror every morning! You say you are not proud of what you did but strangely, you will feel proud of yourself if this is how you decide to handle it... I can never take back what I did. You have the ability to make a wrong right and I promise you will look back on this and know it was the right decision. Now for the flip side of this in case you are thinking about being a coward like I was. If you say nothing, believe me, you have created an enemy for life (and you deserve it too) and others will hear about it because he will tell everyone about it (you would tell everyone if you were innocent, wouldn't you?) and you will be hated. You will lose friends and may never know why because guess what? People don't always explain their behavior; sometimes they just do things and leave you to guess. Your classmates may tell on you anyway because justice (look the word up) was not served and people (even kids) get upset when someone has been wrongfully accused. The principle may call you in and you will have to lie but wait, he might have witnesses, correct?? Your life will change for the worse, I promise you. It is time to Man up. Be the adult. Learn from this. Take responsibility. Do the right thing. Be brave. It will only hurt for a minute compared to the long term pain of doing nothing or writing a letter and blaming him for something he did not do. I know you will make the right choice. I am so proud of you and you know what, I feel a little better for not having taken the blame and letting Dennis Farioli go to the principle's office all those years ago in Springfield, Massachusetts. I am sorry Dennis!
