If you got held back, you're right where you are supposed to be. In order to skip a grade, you'd need to convince the school that you're more than a year ahead of everyone in your classes. Do you have all A's and not have to study at all?

Unless your school will let you test out of all the classes that you would take in eighth grade, you probably can't. Let me tell you from experience, testing out is really hard. It's pretty much taking the final exam without taking the class.
