How long is an academic year at university?

How does the transfer from a two year college to a four year university work ?

  • I'm a student at a two year college and planning on majoring in computer engineering and i am planning on transfering to a four year college after the 2 years to finish my degree in computer engineering and then open a computer repair shop. But how does the transfer to a four year college work ? Do they require an amount of good grades to transfer to the 4 year university ? Also how does the transfer work ? Do they say to you, ok it's time for you to transfer so pack up your books ! ? I'm really curious because i have no college experience and i am starting in the spring semister in january.

  • Answer:

well first you should find a university you'd like to transfer to after you're done at your community college. each school will have specific classes that they allow to transfer as credit and all schools have slightly different policies on how many credits you can transfer (what the min and max are, etc). find schools you're interested in and look at the requirements. keep track of your progress, so when it comes time to apply you'll have everything you need (instead of getting stuck taking one last class over the summer or something). you have to apply to a university, but it is much easier to get in as a transfer, especially if you're on top of all your requirements. because you're applying, you do need to have a competitive GPA, but schools should list what their average applicants have as their GPA and you can compare yourself to that. good luck!
