For Elementary school first grade, how will the lesson be assessed?

Map/direction lesson in first grade?

  • I am in the teacher cadet class at my high school, meaning we are in a class room every morning for first block, sort of interning if you will. We have to prepare our own lesson plans and all that. I was going to do a lesson on map skills, location and direction. But I need help and ideas on what to do. Anything would be helpful. Thank you.

  • Answer:

make a map of the area surrounding the school. Put colored dots in each kids house location. Print out copies and have them trace their route to school and back. Or have them find their own house and draw lines how to get there.

Try helping the kids relate to the map by asking what states kids have been to - visited or lived in. Start by marking those states so the kids have some real life experience to connect it to. Hands on and connecting the lesson to real - everyday life helps them remember and learn.
