Which is better to teach, middle/jr. high or high school?
-
Hi, folks. I want to become a public-school math teacher in Texas. Is it better to teach middle (junior high) school or high school? I think high school teaching is more interesting, but am afraid of students carrying and using guns. (Plus I have the type of face that a gunperson would like to shoot first!) Will middle school be safer for teachers in Texas? Thanks in advance.

Answer:
High school. The children will be more mature, which will be easier on you. The fear of guns is entirely unnecessary. School shootings are extremely rare, and that's an understatement. It's just that whenever one happens anywhere in the world, the media talks about it for days (or even weeks, if it's in the United States) on end. You're statistically more likely to die in traffic, by drowning, falling, or a lightning strike. You have absolutely nothing to fear. If you find high school more interesting, go for it. There's no real negative aspect to doing one over the other.

I think that if your worried about guns that let them go. It depends on where you decide to teach. If a school has a reputation for bad kids then you should not teach there. I still say you teach at middle school because there is usually less disrespect in younger children.

Middle/jr. is better. High school is ridiculous, everybody is a punk, thinking they're gangsters and all that. And like you said school shootings can happen.
