Some 8th grade science questions..HELP?

  • I have a test tomorrow and i forgot my science book at school so i have just a few questions.. 1. the amount of time it takes molecule of radioactive material to decay by1/2 is called? 2.when a bat is held (not swung), what type of energy is this? 3.The half life of carbon 14 is 5,730 years. about how old is a sample that has one fourth of its carbon -14 unchanged? 4.what kind of volcanic eruption is most destructive? 5.what is the sudden return elastically deformed rock to its undeformed shape called? 6.what are the seismic waves that travel in large waves and can cause most damage? 7.the bending, tilting, and breaking of the earths crust;the change in hape of rock in responce to stress is called?

  • Answer:

    1) Half life 2) When it is held it has potential energy. When it is swung it has kinetic energy. 3) 5730 x 2 = 11460 (it decays by half then half again to 1/4 - double the half life) 4) It depends - there are 3 main types and then a load of different subtypes. If you want to know which subtype is the strongest I'm told it's an Ultra Plinian. 5) Elastic Rebound 6) a p-wave 7) deformation
