How does one get a 4.0 GPA?

How can I get a 4.0 GPA or one over 4.0 in High School?

  • I am worried about how my GPA will turn out at the end of my HS years. I am planning on applying to an Ivy League school in the future so I want a quite high GPA. I am in my freshman year and the 1st quarter just ended. I got 4 A's 2 B's and 1 C last quarter which I am worried about. I don't really know how GPA is calculated or what colleges look for in GPA. I have Hon English, Hon Alg 2, Hon Biology, AP US History, Physical Education, Foundations of Art, and regular Spanish 1 (no Hon Spanish 1 available). I plan on taking Spanish for all 4 years of HS since I am required to due to the fact that I am Pre-IB. The actual IB program doesn't start until 11th grade in my school. I've always done well in school, but had some difficulties in 1st quarter due to my absence (I got sick quite often). I was wondering if my last quarter's grade would affect my overall GPA for all 4 years of HS that colleges will look at. Are there any ways that I can improve my GPA or is it even possible to get a 4.0 or higher? Please give some advice on how I can improve my GPA! Thanks soo much!

What in the world...? Your a FRESHMAN and have already Honor classes? AND AN AP CLASS? What in the world are you worried about, you mind as well skip high school while your at it and go to college. For real: Keep taking lots of AP classes and make sure you get A's on them, don't kill yourself and take like 4-6 AP's a year. 3 a year is enough. GPA depends on your grade, just get all A's and you'll get a 4.0, but if you have 3 AP classes and 3 regular classes, and you get all A's in all your classes, your GPA is above 4.0. AP classes give more points so yeah... Don't kill yourself but don't slack off too, and remember not to slack off completely in Senior year, what you take in Senior year should reflect what you take in Freshmen-Junior year, should be almost the same by AP's and Honor classes. So if you begin taking a bunch of AP's and Honor classes in 10th/11th grade, don't give up all of a sudden in 12th grade and take a bunch of easy classes. and Good Luck! =P

Best to talk to your school guidance counselor but if I remember correctly, taking AP classes will do it, also make you you have plenty of extra curricular activities and volunteer work! Good luck!
