What is child centred curriculum?

What do you do with a child that started a new school that is repeating the curriculum he had last year?

  • He left the other private school due to large class sizes and a rotating schedule to come for 5th grade (his current grade) to a small school with differentiated instruction. The problem: the curriculum is the same as he got in 4th grade at his previous school. Should I push to have him bumped up to 6th grade or allow him to do extension activities in the classroom on stuff he already learned or return him to the school he left?

  • Answer:

Is he mature for his age? Could he handle it emotionally? Since it is a new school you don't have to worry about friends in the same grade. I would show proof that he has already done the work and ask him to be moved up. Extension activities in the classroom probably won't be enough.
