How can I motivate myself to get my school work done?
-
I am falling way behind, and 3/5 of my teachers gave my parents bad news when they called for a monthly call. How can I motivate myself to get my work done? I've tried making a tally list of all the assignments that I am submitting in each class, and that helps a little bit somehow, but are there any other types of motivation for me? I always catch myself making up excuses or lounging around on the couch, or playing video games. My parents both have full time jobs and go to school, and just don't have the time to constantly get me going on my work. They tell me that I have been a relatively uncaring and relaxed/lazy person since grade 1. Edit: I don't play video games as much as I did when I was little, but I think they did have some effect on my little 5-year-old brain, because I am an extremely unmotivated person. Sometimes, it seems like you'd have to hold a gun to my head to get me doing something that I'm not interested in. Also, I'm not some spoiled rich kid or something, I treat my parents kindly and do chores when asked, I treat everyone kindly, I don't go around hitting people and calling them names, I make friends with everyone, the only problem in my life (right now) is my inability to get my school work done.

Answer:
You sound pretty intelligent and articulate from what you wrote here. Maybe school is just not for you. It is not for everyone. Just wanted to add to what old man on the hill wrote is that some people are perfectly happy flipping burgers and doing manual labor. there is nothing wrong with that. You dont have to have a high paying job to be happy . money is not happiness

You seem to be concerned enough about your school work to ask on here so that's a good start, have you asked your parents about after school tuition? That would get you motivated because you cant get out of it! If that's not an option then when you get in from school make sure you go straight to your room and do at least an hour before you treat yourself to lying on the couch or playing games, it will be difficult at first but when you get into a routine it will become normal, please make an effort because if you dont get your qualifications then you will regret it. I didn't do well at school and then had to spend years after doing my qualifications again to get a good job. Hope this helps xx
I'm have your problem too. Setting deadlines like "Oh, I'll start my Algebra homework in 10 minutes," didn't work. Neither did isolating myself away from the world for 3 hours to get through an essay. Nope. So what you have to do is give yourself motivation. When I'm done with this I get icecream! Yeah, works every time. :)
you motivate yourself by thinking about what you want out of life when you don't have to go to school anymore. if you can honestly say you will be happy flipping burgers or doing manual labor the rest of your then by all mean don't study. but if you want more out of life than that do your school work and go on to college. the better your education the better paying job you can get i worked over 30 years in aerospace. rose from entry level to the corporate office. couldn't have done that without my education
