Questions about High School?
-
Hi Everyone, I just have a few questions about High School, which is coming up pretty soon (just after I finish this upcoming year of 8th grade). Thanks! 1. How does the level of difficulty in assignments change from middle school to high school? I am in an advanced program at my current school, but I'm still worried that the work in high school will be really difficult for me. Do you suggest that I do extra studying over the summer in subjects that are more challenging for me? 2. What do you know about the IB (International Baccalaureate) Program? How much more difficult is it compared to normal High School classes? What else should I know about it? 3. Right now, I have the choice between two High Schools... High School A is a longer distance from my house, but my Orchestra Teacher and friends are there. High School B is close to my house, has the IB Program, good teachers, and a great Culinary Program; but none of my friends are going to go there. What do you think? A or B? If you take the time to answer these questions well and in more than a few words, I will choose you as best answer. Thanks Again ...and no rude comments please!

Answer:
Well I was just a freshman, but maybe I can help! 1. High school is more difficult, but you will be fine since you are already doing well in advanced classes. It's really just like moving up any other grade. 2. It is definitely more difficult! The work is much more rigorous and you have to put more time into studying and homework. We don't have IB here though, but we do have AP. I've heard IB is more difficult though. However, I am not for sure. 3. I would say High School B because it seems a much better choice for you, other than the friends. But you can make new friends! And you can start new, which I really like! I've moved before I came into 7th grade and I liked it a lot better here! But you can still visit your friends when not in school too so it's not a big deal! I hope you consider what I've said(:

1) Well the work load does increase a lot, but I would not worry about it. My marks went up about 10% in grade 9. Plus the atmosphere is a lot different than grade 8. It will make you feel more mature and prepare you for more chalanging work. I don't think you'll need to study over the summer, unless you really want a head start you'll be fine. 2) I honestly don't know about the IB program. But I have read that it's a lot more chalanging than regular classes. It will be a lot of work. But you'll do fine. Since that you clearly take interst in your education, with hard work you'll do fine. Plus you got a big advantage for Universities. Some really take notice that you were in the IB program. 3) Always go with the better school, so go with B. High schools the time when you start to realize what's best for you, not what your friends are doing. You can make new friends. And to choose best answer it will give you the option probably by tomorrow, it doesn't give you that option right away. Good luck with high school.

if you got good grades in middle school, a's mostly, definately do the IB program. yea its hard but its definately worth it. its an amazing college prep and so many people tell me that college was so much easier because of ib. 9th an 10th grade is the middle years program(MYP) and 11th and 12th is the actually ib program. myp is pretty easy and if you dont like it, switch out, it will still help you. but if you choose to go one, its really more about hard work and sacrifice: are you willing to cram before every single test? and waking up early is a bizzle, i got to wake up at 6 in the morn (im lucky actually, most ppl have to wake up around 5:30) but you can do it! do it for you future, colleges love the IB program and some even offer schollarships for having the diploma! ps. you never get use to waking up :[ much luck sadie, what ever you do, just remember do it for you future because it doesnt stop after highschool! bon chance mon ami
