A theme for a children's book?

What is the difference between the content of a book, and the theme?

• I have to do a summer reading report on book. The directions say to describe the authors style, content, and devolpment of the central theme of the book. So far I have that content is: The individual items or topics that are delt with in a publication of document. Things or substances in an enclosed space such as topics, ideas, statements, or facts in a book. The thought, feeling, attitude, and intention as conveyed by the words and their arrangment. What is said, rather than how it is said, in literature. Is this right? When I went on SparkNotes, it said that a theme is: Themes are the fundamental and often universal ideas explored in a literary work. Which I'm connecting as the same thing.. Are my notes on content of a book correct? If not, what is the content of a book? Is the theme the same thing as the content of a book?

  From what I understand in simple terms, "content" is the various chapters of a book and "theme" is the idea that is repeated throughout a story. They are different. The content tells us the complete story of a book whereas the theme would suggest a main idea or moral values of the story. An example would be the theme of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde is good versus evil.
