How to write a personal monologue?

How can I write a monologue?

  • My teacher gave me an assignment to "write a monologue". He gave no instructions and he did not talk about it. So I searched the internet looking for examples of monologues but still don't know how would I write a monologue. There's no play to go with it, so how can I write the monologue? I'm confused. Any ideas?

hint: Jay Leno's first few minutes onstage of most if not every Tonight Show was a monologue, although these were usually just intended to be jokes, and didnt always stay focused. in the dramatice sense, IIRC, a Shakepearean monologue is a single actor just talking away while no one else says anything. see Romeo and Juliet. so, pick a theme, something that really annoys you, or something you really love, and talk about it. monologues dont have to make total sense.
