How do I open up my own restaurant?

How much (on average) to open a restaurant?

  • I have always wanted to open my own restaurant. I do have experience managing and the everyday running of a restaurant, but I have no idea about HOW much it costs, I was never let in on that. If anyone has any knowledge to share, please do. And for those who own restaurants: if you could itemize the many expenses that you have had (so I have a better idea) that would be wonderful. Expenses such as food distributors, electric, garbage, appliances, supplies such as napkins, and to go cups, payroll, ( I do plan on employing mostly family.) and anything else I, in my denseness, forgot to add. Some more additional information: I live in Colorado, and I'd like to own a smaller cafe style restaurant, a real hole in the wall place. :D

It's too much to answer here. A restaurant is one of the most expensive and time intensive businesses to open. You really need to create a business plan. There will be a lot of research that you have to do. As far as money I've seen small restaurants started with 35K-200K. The 35 was in a restaurant that was established and the new owner was taking over the lease and a cushion in the beginning because it was bringing in revenue. [email protected]

Here's a business joke. How do you start a business and at the end of one year end up with one million dollars? You start with two million. I've had two businesses and they both failed due to lack money for operating expenses, poor sales, and massive over head debt. It is estimated that an average life span of a restaurant in the US is 5 years. Money, money, money.
