Will i still need the Priority Mail Flat Rate Box?

Can I write a higher weight on the postage when shipping USPS Priority Flat Rate Box?

  • I'm using the USPS site to print out postage for Small Priority Mail Flat Rate Box for $4.80. I found out that I would save $1 printing this online instead of paying at the post office. The problem is, I need to factor in the weight of the small priority mail box itself. The item I'm sending weighs 1 lb.. Since I don't know what the weight of the box is (since I won't have one until I go to the post office), can I just write an extra amount on the box i.e. 2 lbs? It's flat rate anyway, so the price will be the same, so does it matter if the weight is more than it actually is?

  • Answer:

As long as you don't go over the weight and size limit to meet the Flat Rate you won't have a problem - the weight again is a maximum so just make sure you don't exceed this weight - and that you item fits securely in the box.
