Weird sequence of bids on my eBay item, what is going on?

  • I started an eBay auction for a Monopoly game and a few hours after I started the auction it was already at $38 that seemed weird so I looked at the bid history and one guy bid 4 times in a row, then a girl bid 9 times in a row incrementing her bid by $2 each time. Then one guy bid it $38 and then later that day he messages me and said I don't know how but somebody bid on this item I did not bid on this. I mean who puts 9 straight bids in with no competition? BTW, i was using a lot of bonus feature for the auction it cost me like $12 in all i added a lot of stuff to it.

    why on earth would you spend $12 for an auction listing for a board game? the "odd" bidding is perfectly normal. usually someone puts a maximum bid in - several dollars higher than what is actually needed at that moment - if another person bids higher than the current bid, but less than #1's max bid, #1's bid automatically increases by the current increment and back and forth until everyone's maximum bid is reached

That's not how ebay works... those bids were incremented by others willing to bid as much.
