Non profit help with EIN & copyright info?
-
where do i start, i have a website at Abuseisnotlove.org i run it by myself and do advocacy work online on social networking sites. i was trying to get a 501 c3 to be recognized as a non profit charitable organization but i was unaware that filling for the paper work would cost allot of money. I'm stuck here with a EIN now i just got a letter from the irs with the EIN code and im wondering.. now that i have a EIN and its recognized as a bussiness will the irs get me and try to get me to get check receipts from the "non profit" i formed? or do i have to tell them its not a non profit anymore? i don't get any donations and i pay for it on my own and i can't afford the money to file for the forms and become a 501 c3 organization. should i just copyright a name instead? and how much does copyrighting a non profit, business would cost? last time i checked it was 35 dollars. does anyone know what kind of forms do i need for that?

Answer:
You copywrite creative works like writing, music, graphic arts, films, etc. You trademark names & slogans. When I filed for my trademark in 2007, the cost was $350 filing fee and then another $100 to actually get the trademark. For more information go to = www.uspto.gov (US patent & trademark office) My thoughts = the only way you can make this work is by becoming a 503 c3 = so figure out a way to get the $400 application fee. Then you CAN accept donations. Right now, there is no incentive for people to donate...

You need to become a 501(c) 3 in order to accept contributions and for contributors to be able to deduct them on their tax returns. Go to http://www.501c3.org/ for instructions on how to become one.
